While the COVID-19 pandemic raging in the United States and health officials warning Americans to practice social distancing on Thanksgiving, many far-right extremists are claiming that a "war on Thanksgiving" is underway. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, on November 21, tweeted his own version of the "war on Thanksgiving" theme by posting an illustration of a turkey with the words, "Come and take it." And he is being slammed on Twitter for failing to take the pandemic seriously.

Philadelphia-based attorney Max Kennerly reminded Cruz that El Paso has become a major coronavirus hotspot:
