Firefighters responded to a single-vehicle accident along the Dennison Grade on Highway 150 east of Ojai Saturday, with a helicopter crew eventually locating a victim after the call had been cancelled.

The incident was reported shortly before 11:50 a.m. as a sedan that had gone off the roadway, possibly requiring a heavy rescue, according to California Highway Patrol and Ventura County Fire Department reports.

Firefighters initially could not find the incident, but by around 12:10 p.m. had spotted a vehicle about 150 feet over the side, north of Dennison Park. When crews reached the car, they reported it was abandoned, radio traffic from the scene indicated.

But Ventura County Sheriff's Copter 6 later located a victim, later described as a 74-year-old man, from the air. The helicopter crew airlifted the patient to Ventura County Medical Center, officials said. The CHP's incident log later listed the accident as causing only minor injuries.

The incident closed eastbound lanes for a time and slowed traffic in both directions in the area.
