Global Dairy Trade index closed higher Tuesday

The Global Dairy Trade index rose 1.8% in Tuesday’s trading event. 

The biggest price gain was anhydrous milk fat, which was up 4.1% at $4,175 a metric ton, or $1.89 a pound.  Prices were also up in the powder market, with skim milk powder up 2.5% at $2,799 per ton or $1.26 per pound.  Whole milk powder also rose 1.8% to $3,037 per ton or $1.37 per pound.  Butter prices rose four-tenths of a percent to $3,838 per ton or $1.74 per pound.

Lactose prices took the biggest drop, falling 18.8% to just $887 per ton or $0.40 per pound.  Cheddar cheese prices dropped 3.5% to $3,641 per ton or $1.65 per pound.

There was no trading activity for butter milk powder and sweet whey powder in Tuesday’s GDT event.
