Oklahoma officer who ran through flames to save his own children in a house fire is recovering, police say

A police officer in Oklahoma is receiving "amazing" support after he sustained burns across his body while rescuing his own children from a fire last week.

Officer Anthony Louie responded to a call about a house on fire Friday that turned out to be his own home, the Seminole Police Department told USA TODAY in a statement. Louie ran through the flames that covered the front porch to save his two children, ages 14 and 7, police said.

Louie suffered smoke inhalation and burns on his face, head and arms. Police said he remains hospitalized but is recovering quickly. His children were unharmed.

The Seminole Fraternal Order of Police, which has been taking donations to help the family, has been overwhelmed.

"The outpouring of support and love for Corporal Louie and his family from the citizens of Seminole and beyond has been amazing," the group said in a Facebook post. "Above all please keep Corporal Louie and his family in your prayers."

Louie's wife, Lureena Louie, told the Washington Post that the FOP's support has been critical.

“If it weren’t for them, I probably couldn’t have gone through this,” she told the newspaper. “They’ve been by my side the whole way.”

She said her husband could be released from the hospital Tuesday, which would be two days before his 34th birthday, the Post reported.

“If he had to do it all over again, he would. That’s what he told the kids,” the wife said. “‘I’d do it for my kids. I’d do it for anybody.’”
