Market access to Indonesia improves after USTR review

The U.S. Trade Representative says Indonesia is removing some trade restrictions which should improve market access for U.S. dairy exports.

NMPF and the U.S. Dairy Export Council were among groups that filed a complaint in 2018, saying the country mandated local partnership arrangements in order to secure import licenses.

Eliminating the requirements ensures Indonesia remains eligible for some duty-free access in the U.S. under the Generalized System of Preferences program as a developing nation.

The U.S. dairy industry exported $238 million in dairy products to Indonesia in 2019, up 80 percent in value from 2017 and dairy groups say the market has even greater potential for growth.
