Many of you know that I work at the Sag Harbor Historical Society (SHHS) as their Office Manager. Well I'm also sharing some of the skills I've learned by doing this blog for the last 10 years. For the last two years SHHS has had an event called Annie's Field of Jack O'Lanterns. Annie refers to Annie Cooper Boyd (ACB) who once owned the house that the Society now calls home and she was a prolific artist and diarist. The event is held on Halloween Eve and Halloween enthusiasts carve pumpkins and bring them to the ACB House to decorate and light up the porch and pathway to the front door.
This year everyone was exceptionally creative and original. One individual carved a large pumpkin as a jail, barred doors and all, and inside was a smaller pumpkin with beady eyes and wearing a COVID mask! Now that's quite a statement on this persons feeling about quarantine and the pandemic. Others were indicative of our locale such as an anchor and a whale, of course. Dancing gremlins, merry maidens, spooky spirits - all made their presence known. Fortunately the Nor'easter rains ceased earlier in the day, so lots of house-bound adventurers ventured out to join us. It was such an uplifting and inspiring event in this all-too-stressful time. So I created this slide show to share some of Sag Harbor's original creativity. We hope you enjoy it. Happy post-Halloween!
