Heading to the polls on Election Day? Here's what you need to know.
Tuesday is Election Day in Pennsylvania.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Pennsylvania has more than 9 million registered voters — an all-time high for the state.
Voters are urged to wear a mask — although it's not required — and observe social distancing while at the polls in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
And if voters still have a mail-in or absentee ballot in hand, state officials say it's important to turn it in immediately. Don't drop it in the mail. Return it in person.
Here's what you need to know:
My mail-in ballot came late. What should I do?
If you requested an absentee or no-excuse mail-in ballot and it arrived late, you have a few options:
- Drop it off in person at the local county elections office before 8 p.m. Nov. 3.
- Place it in a secure drop box — if the county has one — before 8 p.m. Nov. 3.
- Go to the polls to vote.
If you go to the polls, take the entire packet with you — the unmarked ballot, the secrecy envelope and the outer envelope with the voter declaration — to have them voided. Voters do need to sign a declaration. If this is done, voters can receive a regular ballot.
Anyone who goes to the polls without the unmarked mail-in ballot and the envelopes will receive a provisional ballot. Election officials will be checking to see if the mail ballot was returned. If the mail ballot is confirmed, that is the one that will count.

Turned in a 'naked' ballot?
If you made a mistake, such as forgetting to put your ballot in the secrecy envelope or failing to sign the voter's declaration, you can head to the polls on Election Day.
You will receive a provisional ballot.
If your absentee or mail-in ballot is rejected, for a reason other than voter eligibility, the provisional ballot will count.
Paper ballots are back
If you haven't voted in a few years, the touch screen machines are gone.
It's back to paper, and it allows for a paper trail.
Voters will receive a pre-printed ballot and use a pen to shade in the circle of the candidate they are voting for.
The ballot will be run through a scanner to cast the vote.

Polls will be safe and secure
Polling places will be equipped with:
- masks
- gloves
- hand sanitizer
- disinfectant spray
- sneeze guards
- tape for marking social distancing
