Hurricane Zeta threatens New Orleans ports

Hurricane Zeta, the fifth named storm this year, is on a path toward New Orleans ports.

While New Orleans mostly avoided a direct hit from the four previous hurricanes, Zeta is on a more direct path toward the city.

The Soy Transportation Coalition says the U.S. Coast Guard closed the lower Mississippi River to all vessel traffic early this morning.

This is an important time for soybean exports. Last week alone, the USDA says 48 milion bushels of soybeans and more than 18 million bushels of corn were exported from the lower Mississippi River.

Hurricane Zeta became a Category 2 storm this afternoon with 100 mile an hour winds.
