DEWITT TWP. — Two people were arrested after brandishing a gun at the Bath Township Meijer and then fleeing the store early Tuesday morning, police said.

A 23-year-old Lansing man was confronted by a Meijer loss prevention worker just after midnight Tuesday because he was attempting to steal items from the store, DeWitt Township Police Chief Mike Gute said.

The man pulled out a gun, racked it and then fled with the stolen items, Gute said. He drove off in a truck with a trailer carrying a golf cart.

A DeWitt Township officer saw the truck pass and began to pursue it, Gute said. The truck went off the road near the intersection of Webb and Wood roads and crashed into a field.

From there, the man and a 28-year-old Mason woman left the truck and fled on foot, Gute said. The woman was caught almost immediately, and the man was arrested about an hour later after fleeing into the woods.

The gun brandished at Meijer had been reported stolen, as had the trailer and golf cart, Gute said. The truck was also filled with stolen property and tools. Police found methamphetamine on the man.
