LANSING — Voters who are nervous about entering a clerk's office during the COVID-19 pandemic have another option.

Drive-through voting is available to Lansing residents via a tent at the South Washington Elections Unit, 2500 S. Washington Ave.

People can drive up to the tent to register to vote, request and fill out an absentee ballot or replace a ballot due to error. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays as well as 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3.

Michigan absentee voters: It's too late to mail your ballot. Drop it off.

A dog looks on while Lansing residents vote via a drive-through tent. The City Clerk's Office opened the tent on Oct. 22, 2020 in advance of the Nov. 3 election.

The Lansing City Clerk's Office rented the tent and hired temporary staff using grant funding from a nonprofit called the Center for Tech and Civic Life.

Polls are open for in-person voting on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Those who are not yet registered to vote have until 8 p.m. to do so at a local clerk's office. In addition to the South Washington Elections Unit, Lansing residents can register at the Alfreda Schmidt Southside Community Center, 5825 Wise Road or Lansing City Hall, 124 W. Michigan Ave.

In Michigan, absentee ballots must be returned to a drop box or received by mail by 8 p.m. Nov. 3 to be counted.
