[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Once you know what causes hair breakage, it’s much easier to recognise. Sometimes I think 100% healthy hair is an impossibility – all sorts of factors come into play from environment to general health and of course, these fluctuate throughout our lives. We all know the basics – that hair is has an inner cuticle with overlapping scales that need to be smooth and flat to protect the core. Anything can disrupt this – colouring, heat treatments and, if you read any sort of marketing scare materials, a sudden change in wind direction ;-). It’s true though that keeping each strand as hydrated as possible gives them stretch which is able to better withstand the rigours of life.

Aveda Botanical Extract Strengthening Hair Care

So, on that basis, Aveda Botanical Extract Strengthening is indeed more hydrating than most, containing avocado, green tea and sacha inchi oil plus a mysterious ‘bond multiplying molecule’ that as usual, you need a degree in hair to properly get to the bottom of. This is part of why reviews are still so important and relevant – there is so much ‘science’ around each and every product that it’s easier to just go on trusted user experience. But, Aveda are so sure it will hit the spot that they guarantee a refund if after two weeks you don’t love it.

Aveda Botanical Extract Strengthening Hair Care

The thing is, I DO love it – it’s got the gorgeous Pure-fume aroma, I have soft and swishy hair that looks lustrous, smooth and conditioned but only time will tell whether I will see a difference in overall ‘health’. I used the shampoo and the conditioner but have yet to try the leave-in (I feel a bit nervous to use this in case it’s too much) and the intensive mask. It will largely depend upon how dry and damaged your hair is in the first place how much benefit you will see. Mine is in quite good condition just now so I don’t feel the need for the intensive treatment. Annoyingly, on the Aveda website, the ‘science’ is quite confusing – it’s too brief in parts and too much in other parts – what on earth is the ‘F’ layer? I’ve gone all my life without knowing what that is (or even having heard of it) and I still don’t know now. Or care, to be honest. But if you’re an Olaplex fan, this is Aveda’s offering that has been 6 years in the making to offer a repairing, bond building alternative. With the shampoo starting at £26 for 200ml, I’d suggest the £35 value pack containing three of the products (shampoo, conditioner and leave-in) worth £46 with 50ml and 100ml versions HERE, non-affiliate HERE. It allows you to get a feel for the results without a big lay-out.

Healthy hair depends on an inner cuticle with overlapping scales that keep your strands together. When these scales fall apart, your hair can get dry and eventually separate, leading to damage. This causes breakage, along with other symptoms, such as frizz and dryness.
