Good Trouble Ballot March and Get Out the Vote Rally touts importance of voting

Saturday, about 75-80 voters marched to the York County Administrative Center to cast their mail-in or absentee ballots. It was part of the "Good Trouble Ballot March and Get Out the Vote Rally."

Participants started at Penn Park in York and marched east on College Avenue to South George Street and then headed north on North George Street to the square. From there, the procession headed east on East Market Street to the York County Administrative Center

The event, designed to encourage voting, was held in memory of civil rights leader John Lewis, who died earlier this year. One of his famous quotes urged people to "get in good trouble."

The York County Commissioners, City of York, local clergy, BMA, Baptist Ministers' Conference of Pennsylvania, and local grassroots organizations led the event. 

After each person cast their ballot, the group headed to the York City Hall parking lot for a Get Out the Vote rally.

Speakers talked of the importance of voting, including York City Mayor Michael Helfrich and members of the clergy and grassroot organization leaders. 

Participants wore masks and observed social distancing.
