President Donald Trump's rally in Lansing: Schedule, how to get tickets

President Donald Trump will visit Lansing one week before Election Day. The Republican candidate will hold a rally on Oct. 27 at Capital Region International Airport.

Michigan remains a contested state in the 2020 Election. In 2016, Trump became the first GOP presidential candidate to win the state's electoral votes since 1988 in a narrow victory over Hillary Clinton. Most recent polls show Democratic nominee Joe Biden leading Trump by about 8 percentage points in Michigan.

Democrats issue statement regarding Trump rally and COVID-19 pandemic

In a statement issued after the rally was announced, Michigan Democratic Party chair Lavora Barnes shared concern for holding a rally as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the state.

New coronavirus case numbers in Michigan have recently spiked to levels higher than they were in March and April. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 1,826 new COVID-19 cases on Oct. 23. — with a seven-day average of 1,655 daily cases — and 18 new deaths.

Here's Barnes' statement in full:

“Yet again, Donald Trump is coming to Michigan to showcase his reckless disregard for our lives as COVID-19 cases spike. From day one of this crisis, Trump has lied, dodged responsibility, and refused to take this deadly pandemic seriously while Michigan pays the price. Now, over 7,000 have died, over 150,000 have been sickened, and countless have lost their jobs or been forced to shut down their business while Trump tanks the economy. Meanwhile, Trump said on the debate stage on Thursday that Americans are learning to “live with” coronavirus, nevermind the destruction the virus has caused Michigan and the country. There’s nothing Trump can say or do at his rally to make Michigan voters forget the devastation he is forcing on our state and we are turning out in droves to reject his destructive agenda, voting early in-person and on election day for Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Gary Peters, and Democrats up and down the ballot.”
