Fishers police arrested a 26-year-old man for driving while intoxicated in the crash that killed a Carmel woman early Saturday.

Dario Chagollan, 26, Fishers, faces a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death in the 1:30 a.m. crash on 116th Street near Belle Plaine Boulevard, Fishers Police Department spokesman Sgt. Tom Weger said in a news release.

Chagollan, Weger said, was driving a Mercedes passenger car that rear-ended a Toyota passenger car, causing the Toyota to catch fire.

Police said the driver of the Toyota, a 57-year-old Carmel woman, died at the scene.

Hamilton County Coroner John Chalfin said an autopsy was planned for Monday afternoon. Chalfin said his office will need DNA or dental records before the woman can be positively identified, which may take several weeks.

Chagollan was treated for non-life threatening injuries at an area hospital then arrested and booked into the Hamilton County Jail, police said.
