Alamogordo hosting Movies at Medlin, Trick or Treat on Granado in Tulie canceled

In a traditional year, Alamogordo and Tularosa children of all ages would dress up as ghouls, goblins and Disney characters and trick or treat at Alamogordo City Hall and on Granado Street in Tularosa.

Because of COVID-19 emergency public heath restrictions that have tightened due to elevated COVID-19 cases in New Mexico including in Otero County.

In Alamogordo, the usual Trick or Treat at City Hall is canceled but the City is hosting Movies at Medlin beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30. 

There will be drive thru trick or treating at Square 47,1900 Highway 54, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. unless public health orders change.

The film "Hocus Pocus" will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The event is at Medlin Ramps at Square 47 and will cost $15 per car. Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite.

Tickets include a parking space, a space next to it for up to five people to sit and vendors will be at the event.

Service animals are allowed at the event but pets are not, there will also be no smoking or vaping, alcohol and firearms are also prohibited from the event.

The City has posted Halloween and fall-inspired ideas to its Facebook page.

Tularosa Trick or Treat on Granado Street is canceled but the luminarias this holiday season will be there this year.

Over at the Otero County Fairgrounds the annual Burning of the Bull was canceled earlier this year.

The Haunted Village of Cloudcroft at the Sacramento Mountains Historical Museum and Pioneer Village, 1000 Highway 82 on Cloudcroft, will be open from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Oct. 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31.

Admission is $8 with proceeds going to the Sacramento Mountains Museum and Pioneer Village.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham issued a public health order Oct. 16 is response to rising numbers of COVID-19 cases statewide.

The City of Alamogordo celebrated Halloween with its City Hall Trick or Treat featuring a Toy Story theme. Also Alamogordo Police Department held its second annual Haunted House with some scares, games for all ages and candy galore.

The order prohibits groups of more than five people to gather, closes establishments that serve alcohol to close at 10 p.m. and mandatory self-quarantine for those coming from out of state.

Otero County has had 319 positive COVID-19 cases, 13 Otero County residents have died of the disease and 141 have recovered, according to the state Department of Health.

New Mexico as a whole has had 34,958 positive cases, 922 New Mexicans have died of COVID-19 and 19,457 have recovered, according to the state Department of Health.
