This year’s virtual conference will begin with a session covering hemp production and management. Andrew Ristvey and Nicole Fiorellino from the University of Maryland College Park will cover agronomy and nutrient management of industrial hemp in Maryland. Zachary Brym from the University of Florida will discuss production in Florida, Abdel Berrada from Colorado State University will talk about the challenges for industrial hemp in the western U.S., and Shawn Lucas from Kentucky State University will share information about organic production of hemp.
The next session will dive into the economics of hemp and the processing and marketing of industrial hemp in 2020 and beyond. Tyler Mark from the University of Kentucky along with Canna Ventures of West Virginia will share their insights and expectations for future hemp markets.
After lunch, Drs. Simon Zebelo and Behnam Khatabki from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) will share the results of their research on integrated pest and disease management of industrial hemp. Then, Drs. Sadanand Dhekney and Naveen Kumar Dixit, also from UMES, will discuss their work in the physiology, genetics and propagation of industrial hemp.
And last but certainly not least, this year’s conference will again conclude with a stellar panel to discuss the current state of federal and state regulations for hemp. Jim Drews, Turfgrass & Seed Program Manager for the Maryland Department of Agriculture will be joined by Trish Hall, Chief Compliance Officer for Native Plant Company, Kevin Atticks from the Maryland Hemp Coalition, and Renee Johnson from the U.S. Congressional Research Service to provide an overview of State and Federal regulations. Nicole Cook, Agricultural and Environmental Faculty Legal Specialist at UMES, will moderate the panel, and attendees will be able to submit questions for the panelists.
