The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra returns with a one-night concert at the Washington Pavilion.

The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra is bach — er, back.

After a canceled spring season due to COVID-19, the SDSO is kicking off its season with a one-night October concert featuring music from famed composer Johann Sebastian Bach.

The Blissful Bach concert will feature all six of the Brandenberg concertos in addition to other works.

The concert, set for Oct. 3 at the Mary W. Sommervold Hall at the Washington Pavilion, will connect its listeners to a message of hope, which is fitting during the wake of COVID-19.

"No music speaks of hope as Bach does," said Delta David Grier, SDSO music director, in a statement. "With such an inspired combination of joy and poignant sorrow, he offers us the heart space for the best kind of introspection."

The concert will open with a performance of the Star-Spangled Banner, a traditional opening to the season.

All audience members are required to wear a mask in the concert hall. Seating will be physically-distanced, so there is limited seating available.

Tickets are $15, and the performance can be audio-streamed on the Symphony's website or on South Dakota Public Broadcasting's Facebook page. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
