A cold front, currently pushing eastward, will reach the Atlantic Seaboard around mid-week. Rainfall associated with the front could total 2 to 4 inches or more in the middle and northern Atlantic States. Drought relief may occur in New England, but areas farther south may experience flash flooding. Later in the week, a secondary cold front will deliver some of the coldest air of the season across the Midwest. Late this week, widespread freezes should occur from Nebraska and the Dakotas eastward into the Great Lakes region. Elsewhere, dry weather will prevail during the next 5 days from the Pacific Coast to the Plains, although summer-like heat in the West will contrast with chilly conditions in most areas east of the Rockies.
