Farmer says rain has delayed harvest, but crops are looking good

Rain has delayed harvest for West Central Ohio farmer Patty Mann.

“I’m pretty certain we have some soybeans that are ready to go but we have a little bit of rain coming through the area,” she says. “But, it sounds like it’s going to be dry for the next week or so after today and I’m pretty sure we’ll be taking some soybeans off later this week.”

She tells Brownfield the crops are looking good.

“We’re seeing some decent ears out there on the corn and the soybeans look good as well,” she says. “The early-planted soybeans may have gotten hurt somewhat by the dryness, but I think our later-planted beans had more timely rains on them. Overall, I think we’re going to be looking at a decent average if not a little above average for the year.”

Mann grows corn and soybeans in Shelby County and is president of the Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association.
