Man flown to hospital after Stuart woman accused of stabbing him in head with knife

STUART— A Stuart woman was accused of stabbing a man who was then flown to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce for treatment, Stuart Police Department officers said.

Christina Cavazos, 30, of the 5500 block of South Kanner Highway in Stuart was arrested on one charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. 

Early Saturday morning, police said they were called about a stabbing at the Suburban Extended Stay Hotel, 1900 South U.S. 1. .

Officers said when they arrived at the hotel, they spoke with Cavazos and the stabbed man who both told officers an unknown man knocked on their hotel door and then stabbed the man.

Stuart Fire Rescue arrived and treated the man, who was later flown to Lawnwood.

Officers said there was blood on the room's front door, kitchen floor and into the hotel's hallway.

Cavazos went with officers to the Stuart Police Department so she could give officers a statement about what happened. 

Cavazos told police she and the man got into a fight and the man wrapped his hands around her neck and started to choke her. Cavazos told police she then grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the head.

Cavazos was taken to the Martin County Jail. She later was release on $10,000 bail.
