Beginning in October, Citrix will start shipping certain hardware appliances of Citrix Application Delivery Controller (ADC) with a new manufacturing build — Citrix ADC firmware version 11.1 build 64.14. Customers will see the new build in a phased rollout over the next few months on newly purchased Citrix ADC MPX and SDX models.

To help you quickly determine if your new appliance is on this new build without logging in, there will be a large warning poster attached to the device as well as a QR code on the page to scan for additional information about this build.

For added security, specific MPX devices will be shipped with a new upgrade, Fortville version 7.0. To ensure continuity, Citrix recommends upgrading any current MPX ADCs as well as associated NICs by following the steps in this article: Fortville NIC firmware upgrade. By starting this process now, customers will know there is no incompatibility when new devices arrive!

Citrix ADC 11.1 build 64.14 also includes an updated password scheme, delivering enhanced security to both MPX and SDX platforms. This new scheme will support more stringent security measures and complies with California law AB-1906.

On this new build, the default password for the nsroot account is now the serial number located on the back of each ADC appliance. The serial number is unique to each appliance. For best practice, Citrix recommends immediately changing the default password after first logging on. More information about changing your administrative password on Citrix ADC is available in the product documentation.

The full details of this release and a list of all impacted Citrix ADC MPX and SDX models is available in the Citrix Support’s Knowledge Center announcement.
