Missouri, Iowa could receive early freeze

A University of Missouri climatologist says Missouri and Iowa might receive an early fall freeze.

Patrick Guinan said a cold front moving in from Canada could lead to freezing conditions around October 1^st.

“In the Iowa, Missouri border it’s [the freeze] generally around October 11^th,” he said. “That would be one to two weeks earlier than usual in regard to an early fall freeze.”

And he said the cold front will likely not relieve scattered drought conditions in the Midwest.

“It looks like this below normal precipitation pattern is going to persist through all of next week,” Guinan said.

He said high temperatures for the area generally in the 70’s during September but starting next week, highs will struggle to reach 60.
