Minnesota farmer says variability will best describe harvest

Soybean harvest is just getting started for west Central Minnesota farmer Tony Dominic.

He tells Brownfield yields have been variable.  “The low end, maybe 45 to 50 bushels per acre and the high end 65 to 70 bpa,” he says.  “Compaction issues and stuff are really starting to show up, so I’d say we’ll see our biggest swing (in yields) this year and variability.  There’s definitely some really good fields and some not so good fields.”

Dominic says this will be the first dry fall they’ve had in several years and they’re going to take the opportunity to prepare fields for the 2021 planting season.  “We’re trying to work things really deep or twice to try and break up that compaction,” he says.  “Hopefully that will fix some issues.”

He says they’re set to start corn harvest in a few weeks, and they wrapped up silage harvest about two weeks ago.
