Thinking about a summer job for 2021? The U.S. Forest Service is hiring

The U.S. Forest Service announced it was seeking employees for temporary positions during the spring and summer of 2021.

The positions are within the Lincoln National Forest. Applications can be viewed at www.usajobs.gov. The application period closes Sept. 28.

When applying, the Forest Service, recommends indicating Cloudcroft, Sacramento, Ruidoso, Capitan or Carlsbad as preferred locations.

Season workers are needed for wild land fire, recreation, forestry, wildlife and archeology.

"Temporary employees are an essential part of the Forest Service workforce during the busy spring and summer field season each year," a news release from the Forest Service read.

"Spending a summer on the Lincoln is a great way to gain valuable work experience, apply your education to a practical work environment and try out different career fields. Many permanent Forest Service employees began their careers as temporary employees."

All the positions are open to the public. Selections are made in mid-January typically and all succesful applicants would be required to submit fingerprints and consent to a backgroun check.

The work generally runs from April or May through September, the Forest Service indicated.
