EAST LANSING – Drivers should expect regular lane closures on a short stretch of U.S. 127 for the next three weeks.

There will be single-lane closures on southbound U.S. 127 from the Red Cedar River to just south of Trowbridge Road until about Oct. 9 for resurfacing work.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing more than $375,000 to resurface the road and redo pavement markings.

The goal of the project is to make the road smoother and increase safety and roadway integrity. According to the state agency, the new surface also will help preserve the lower layers of the highway.

Work started at 9 a.m. Monday and is scheduled to wrap up at 9 p.m. Oct. 9.

MDOT warns drivers to expect delays until then and seek alternate routes. There will be posted detours.
