LAS CRUCES - The Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department announces interested community members can access the final assessment report for the Las Cruces Skate Park at 151 N. Walnut St.

The study started in May and was completed in July to determine renovation priorities for the skate park rehabilitation capital project, according to a city news release.

“The public survey drew really great constructive input from the skate and BMX community, which was considered in the assessment’s recommendations,” said Sonya Delgado, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department. “Next step is determining how best to implement those recommendations within our limited budget.”

The first proposed option in the assessment, which outlines rehabilitating areas in the current structure and rebuilding a small portion of the park, is the better financially achievable plan, according to Parks and Recreation Department staff members. “We can improve certain elements of the park as outlined in Option One of the assessment with the funding that we have now, and we can begin looking for other funding to make additional upgrades in the future,” Delgado added.

Legislative capital outlay funding in the amount of $845,000 was approved in February 2020 for the rehabilitation of the existing skate park. The funding is expected to be received by the City Council in October.
