[unpaid/sample] The last of the new Shiro fragrances for me to try, and the most glorious blast of citrus. Weirdly, I smell lemongrass but it’s not listed as an ingredient.
If you’re thinking lemon sherbet, you couldn’t be more wrong – this is a citrus composition that is broken up by crisp leaves and resins to give it fulsome body that far exceeds the fleeting thrill of the top notes. Mandarin and Bergamot combine with Cypress, Frankincense and Palmarosa (which turns out to be where I get the lemongrass from because they are, apparently, very similar – who knew?!). Base notes of Juniper and Cedarwood smooth it off so well. I feel this really is a unisex (although Shiro still does the specifics of which gender their fragrances are for on their packaging but not their website which deems them all genderless so there is some confusion there) perfume – I can really imagine it on anyone and especially, for some reason, on warm evenings after a day in the sun. That’s just where my head placed it.
I so wish Shiro did a sample set because these are so expensive at £135 a time and yet, they are such discoveries. As a quick reminder, Shiro Perfume uses distilled yuzu and Japanese mugwort water instead of plain old H20 for more depth – they are truly distinctive and I’ve enjoyed working my way through them. Yes, you are so right, I wish they did a discovery set. Would love to sample this intriguing house. Will keep an eye out.
