To help equip Alamogordo students with the supplies they need this school year, Thrive in Southern New Mexico held its annual Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive.

"We've had a tremendous amount of support this weekend, even during a pandemic," Stephanie Hale of Thrive in Southern New Mexico said.

Stuff the Bus was held Aug. 7 through Aug. 8. The event coincided with New Mexico's Tax Free Weekend.

At Grace United Methodist Church, 1206 Greenwood Lane, an annual school supply backpack giveaway went so well, volunteers ran out of backpacks to hand out about a half hour into the giveaway.

The backpack giveaway had more recipients this year, Grace United Methodist Church Pastor Alan McMillen said.

The backpack drive-thru will happen again from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 13 when the school supply-filled backpacks will be replenished.

For more information about the backpacks call Grace United Methodist Church at 575-437-7640.
