Here are the businesses in Otero County investigated for COVID-19 outbreaks

Workplaces and businesses throughout New Mexico that saw rapid-response investigations for COVID-19 outbreaks since May 13 were recently released by the New Mexico Environment Department and the New Mexico Department of Health. 

And on Aug. 5, the Environment Department filed an emergency amendment that required employers in the state to disclose positive cases to the State within four hours of the virus' detection. 

The rule will stay in effect for 120 days, and could be made permanent if approved by the Environmental Improvement Board after the initial term. 

When the emergency rule was filed, the State reported more than 600 cases of COVID-19 where the employer knew of the positive test before NMED, with more than 280 cases where employers were aware of infection at least three days before the State.

“A critical element of the state’s rapid responses is timing – we need to hear as soon as possible when a positive case is identified,” said NMED Cabinet Secretary James Kenney.

“This amendment ensures that New Mexico employees are protected in the workplace and employers are held accountable. Our Occupational Health and Safety Bureau expects compliance with this emergency rule starting today.”
