A Minnesota man was sentenced to more than 17 years in federal prison on a conviction of receiving child pornography, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced.

Nicolas Edward Wilson, 35, was sentenced Monday to 17.5 years in federal prison, five years of supervised release and must pay $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Wilson was also ordered to register as a sex offender and undergo sex offender treatment.

U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier sentenced Wilson.

Between September 2012 and April 2015, Wilson searched for child pornography on the internet and used his phone to take pornographic photos of a juvenile female in South Dakota, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

When the female became an adult, she reported Wilson to law enforcement.

"The sentence reflects the seriousness of the offense as well as the courage of a victim to come forward and disclose the traumatic events that occurred to her while she was a teenager," U.S. Attorney for South Dakota Ron Parsons said.

McCook County Sheriff's Office, the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the FBI investigated. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper prosecuted the case.
