Good week for sorghum, wheat export inspections

The USDA says sorghum and wheat export inspections for the week ending July 30th were more than what’s needed to meet projections for the current respective marketing years. The 2020/21 marketing year started June 1st for wheat, while 2019/20 runs through the end of August for corn, sorghum, and soybeans.

Wheat came out at 500,110 tons, down 43,900 from the week ending July 23rd, but up 83,933 from the week ending August 1st, 2019. The main destinations were the Philippines and Japan. About two months into the 2020/21 marketing year, wheat inspections are 4,631,000 tons, compared to 4,245,993 in 2019/20.

Corn was reported at 716,127 tons, 124,579 lower than the previous week, but 70,305 higher than a year ago. Japan and Mexico were the top destinations. Entering the final month of the 2019/20 marketing year, corn inspections are 37,941,582 tons, compared to 44,926,988 late in 2018/19.

Soybeans were pegged at 551,543 tons, 49,898 more than the prior week, but 481,331 less than this time last year. China and Egypt were the primary destinations for the week. So far, this marketing year, soybean inspections are 39,373,215 tons, compared to 41,381,628 a year ago.

Sorghum totaled 171,125 tons, an increase of 87,041 on the week and 153,729 on the year. The sole listed destination was China. 2019/20 sorghum inspections are 4,523,028 tons, compared to 1,858,124 in 2018/19.
