A football player at Warren Central High School tested positive for COVID-19, according to a spokesperson from the school.

The news comes shortly after a New Palestine football player was also found to be positive for COVID-19.

Director of Community Relations for MSD Warren Township Dennis Jarrett said after the school learned that the player had tested positive, anyone who had come in close contact with the student was notified within 24 hours and directed to quarantine for 14 days.

A letter sent on Aug. 1 to parents and caregivers of students who came in contact with the player defined "close contact" as being within six feet of a person who has tested positive for more than 15 minutes.

The letter said those who came in contact with the COVID-19 positive individual is not allowed to attend extracurricular activities, including football, or go to school until the 14 days have passed.

While MSD of Warren Township starts school Aug. 6, the letter said, based on the time of the last known contact, the athlete can return to school Aug. 10.

Indiana has allowed physical contact at football practices since July 20. Several teams have paused workouts and quarantined players because of positive tests.

In Marion County, contact sports are allowed for now, but are under further review by the Marion County Health Department.
