If you are planning to go shopping — pretty much anywhere — in Pennsylvania beginning next week, you'll want to have a face covering with you.

Retailers across the country, most recently Target, said they will require customers to wear face coverings at all locations to limit the spread of COVID-19, regardless of what local rules are or aren’t in place.

Target said in a statement it would start requiring masks or face coverings in all stores starting Aug. 1.

"This builds on the more than 80% of our stores that already require guests to wear face coverings due to local and state regulations," it said.

Kohl's will start requiring customers to wear face coverings at stores nationwide beginning Monday. Employees have already been wearing masks since Kohl's locations reopened.

"As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, face covering mandates have grown to apply to approximately 70% of our store base, therefore we’ve made the decision to take a consistent approach across our entire store fleet," Kohl's said in a statement.

Masked shoppers exit and enter Target in West Manchester Township while a sign warns them at the entrance that masks are mandatory in accordance with Pennsylvania state orders.

Signs will be posted at store entrances and employees will greet customers at the door to remind them to wear masks, the release said.

A wave of other retailers this week, including Walmart and Sam’s Club, said that their stores will implement a mask policy across locations starting Monday.

"We know some people have differing opinions on this topic. We also recognize the role we can play to help protect the health and well-being of the communities we serve by following the evolving guidance of health officials like the CDC," the chief operating officers of Walmart and Sam's Club said in a blog post Wednesday.

Many other stores, including Costco, already require face coverings for customers to enter their stores.

Best Buy and Starbucks started requiring consumers nationwide to wear masks Wednesday.

"We're joining others in taking the next step and requiring all customers to wear face coverings," CVS tweeted Thursday.
