Coronavirus update Tuesday: 69 new cases reported in Ventura County

Ventura County public health officials reported 69 new cases of coronavirus Tuesday. 

The latest figures show that 3,858 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since the first case was identified March 6. 

Most of the people, 2,082, have recovered from the virus and 50 people have died. The other 1,726 cases are under active quarantine, public health officials reported. 

As of Tuesday, 79 residents were in the hospital being treated with 31 of them in the intensive care unit. The numbers are down slightly from the day before, which stated 88 people in the hospital and 30 in the intensive care unit, according to the county's data. 

So far, 76,400, residents have been tested. The county's population is about 850,000.

Location, age of local COVID-19 cases 

The highest number of new cases was reported in Ventura. The city's overall tally increased by 29 to 373. Thirteen more cases were reported in Oxnard, bringing its total to 1,325.

Ten more Simi Valley residents tested positive, meaning 679 residents have had the virus. Thousand Oaks' cases stand at 390, an increase of six. Camarillo reported another four cases, raising its total to 157, according to the county's data. 

Fillmore and Port Hueneme each reported two additional cases. Overall, Fillmore has reported 238 cases and Port Hueneme has reported 79. 

Moorpark, Ojai and Santa Paula's cases each went up by one. Moorpark has reported 192 coronavirus cases, Ojai has reported 27 and Santa Paula has reported 260. 

As of Tuesday, Piru's cases remained 69, Oak Park's cases remained 36, Somis' cases remained 21, and Oak View's cases remained 12. 

The biggest spike in infections was reported in people between 45 and 64. Another 21 women tested positive, bringing the total to 523. The number of men infected in this group grew by nine, totaling 549, data shows. 

Fifteen more people in the 25-44 age group tested positive. In this age range, 634 women and 781 men have been infected. 

Nine additional people between 18 to 24 have been infected. So far, 276 women and 310 men have tested positive. 

The latest figures show eight more people 65 and older have contracted the virus. A total of 190 women and 207 men in this group have tested positive. 

Minors 17 and under also reported increases in the 0-17 age group. For girls, 189 have tested positive, and 182 boys tested positive, according to the county's report. 

The ages of four female and four male patients is currently unknown, authorities said. 

Public health officials have determined that 1,257 have been infected through person-to-person transmission. Another 837 were infected via community transmission. Eighteen of the cases are travel-related and 1,746 cases are under investigation.
