Grass fire reported on Navy base near Silver Strand

Firefighters quickly stopped the progress of a vegetation fire at Naval Base Ventura County, Port Hueneme Monday night.

The small blaze was reported around 9:39 p.m. near Talos Road, close to the unincorporated Silver Strand community outside Oxnard. Fire crews reported finding a 20' by 10' grass fire on base property and noted smoke was visible as they drove to the scene.

Crews soon stopped the fire's forward progress. They expected to be on scene mopping up until about 10:30 p.m.
