A month ago, Detroit Pistons assistant general manager Malik Rose departed the organization for a job with the NBA. Now, the franchise has lost its other assistant GM.

Pat Garrity will leave the Pistons once his contract expires, ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Sunday. His departure will leave the team without any assistant GMs, which will give new general manager Troy Weaver a clean slate as he takes over the front office.

Pistons' Chauncey Billups loses the basketball under pressure from Magic defender Pat Garrity during their playoff game in Orlando, April 27, 2003.

Garrity, 43, was a holdover from the Stan Van Gundy-led regime. He was hired in 2014 as director of strategic planning and promoted to assistant general manager in 2016. The Pistons tasked him with leading the analytics staff, as well as lending a hand with salary-cap management.

The franchise will continue its process filling out the rest of its front office. In June, a league source told the Free Press that the Pistons could hire up to two assistant GMs to work under Weaver.

Tayshaun Prince, who has been with the Grizzlies’ front office since 2017, is a candidate to join the new Pistons front office.
