Stay Hungry: Food truck festivals, authentic French dishes, more in Evansville food news

Chef Dontae Hines will be opening his own pizza restaurant, Dontae's Highland Pizza Parlor, in the location of the former Highland Pizza on North First Avenue.

Celebrated Evansville chef Dontae Hines will soon be opening his own shop —Dontae’s Highland Pizza Parlor, in the former Highland Pizza shop on North First Avenue. Hines has crafted pizzas at Turoni’s and The Deerhead, and more recently gained a reputation for creative sandwiches and specials at Piston’s and The Bokeh Lounge. The menu will include pizza, stromboli and paninis. If all goes as planned, opening for delivery and carry-out is Aug. 1.

The Farmer and Frenchman restaurant and winery lies next to its vineyard just outside Henderson.

The Farmer and Frenchman has introduced a lunch menu and has added to the dinner menu. The lunch menu features many of the previous house appetizer, pasta and entree specialties with a section of panini sandwiches on house-baked bread. The dinner menu now includes a French Quarter section with authentic French dishes such as Beef Bourguignon, Chicken Chasseur with a cognac tarragon reduction sauce, Duck Confit and a pork chop with a creamy mustard and cognac reduction sauce.

Also at The Farmer and Frenchman, the fourth annual Art on the Vine Art Sale and Festival will happen on Saturday, July 11 from 1-7 p.m. Finally, a five-course dinner with wine pairings is scheduled for Thursday, July 30. Tickets are $125 per person. Seating is very limited so call to reserve early.

Food trucks at Farm 57 begins on Wednesday, July 8, from 4:30-8 p.m. at Farm 57 on Kansas Road. Select edibles from many of the members of the Evansville Food Truck Association and guest trucks as well. Bring chairs or blankets. Live music will be performed and social distancing is requested.

The Lunch on the Lawn food truck gathering will happen at the Old Vanderburgh County Courthouse on Friday, July 10 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Participating trucks include Chino Taco, Divas Cookin, Jayson Munoz, Kona Ice, Kool Shack, Random Fill-Ups, Rock-A-Burger, the Acai Bar, The Cheese Queen and Uncke Ted’s Just Dang Good Food.

The Riverbend Food Truck Fest will begin at Riverbend Park on East Water Street in Mount Vernon, Indiana, on Thursday, July 9 from 4-7 p.m. and continue every Thursday through Aug. 27. There will be live music each week. Trucks in attendance on July 9 include Uncle Ted’s Just Dang Good Food, Divas Cookin, Kool Shack, Sassy Sweets, Chino Taco, Rock-A-Burger, The Duffy Shuffle, Bruce Li, Taco Bar, The Cheese Queen, Lolly’s Pops and Queen B’s Cuisine.
