Motorcyclist dies in head-on crash north of Hot Springs

A 37-year-old man died after a motorcycle-car crash a couple miles north of Hot Springs Friday night, authorities say.

Around 10:45 p.m. Friday, a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix was headed northbound on U.S. Highway 385 when it collided with a southbound 2016 Harley Davidson FLHXS motorcycle, which was traveling in the northbound lane, according to a news release from the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet, the release states.

The 29-year-old male driver of the Grand Prix suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a Rapid City hospital by ambulance. Three juvenile passengers, including a 15-year-old male and two 13-year-old females, sustained minor injuries. All four occupants were wearing seat belts, according to the release.

Names of those involved will be released pending family notification, the release states.

South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
