Five injured after GettyPeds vehicle flips at Gettysburg National Military Park

Five people, two of whom were entrapped, were injured after a GettyPeds tourist vehicle flipped on West Confederate Avenue on Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1:38 p.m. July 2 within the grounds of the Gettysburg National Military Park in Cumberland Township, just past the Virginia Monument.

Two patients were flown to the hospital by separate medical helicopters, said Jason Martz, acting public affairs officer for Gettysburg National Military Park. The other three were taken to the hospital by ground ambulance.

Three of the victims were adults, and two were children, he said.

Martz said the vehicle was found on its side, but officials are unsure how many times the vehicle might have flipped during the accident.

Martz said skid marks appear to show that the driver lost control while coming down a hill, but officials are still investigating.

Martz said that the Pennsylvania State Police are taking over the scene, with officers coming to investigate the cause. 

Martz said the road will continue to be closed for hours while police investigate. It remains closed as of 4 p.m.

The vehicle involved in the crash is described as a "Model T-style electric car" and seats five people according to the GettyPed website.

The business rents vehicles to customers to drive themselves. Customers have the option of solo or guided group tours, the website states.
