'Normal People' author Sally Rooney's 'Conversations With Friends' is a go at Hulu

Fans who couldn't get enough of Connell and Marianne in Hulu's buzzy "Normal People" are in for a new treat.

"Conversations With Friends," based on "Normal" author Sally Rooney's 2017 first novel, has been picked up by Hulu for a 12-episode half-hour season. 

The drama is also set in Dublin, where two female college students develop "an unexpected, strange and sexually charged relationship with an older married couple, which results in a complicated pair of love triangles that upends their lives," Hulu says in its description.

"Normal People," which followed the on-again, off-again relationship of an Irish couple from high school through college years, won acclaim on Hulu from the moment it was released in April. The streaming service quickly optioned the earlier novel to capitalize on Rooney's naturalistic storytelling, at times melancholy, sexy and wry.

“Sally Rooney perfectly and beautifully captures the complicated dynamics of relationships in her stories," says Beatrice Springborn, Hulu's VP of content, in a statement. "After bringing that to life in 'Normal People' to an overwhelmingly positive response, we are honored to do the same with 'Conversations With Friends.' 

Lenny Abrahamson and Alice Birch, the lead director and writer, respectively, of "Normal," will also work on the new project. Hulu has not set a release date.
