Demi Lovato teams up with YouTube again for four-part docuseries on personal, musical journey

YouTube and Demi Lovato are teaming up again for a four-part docuseries.

The online streaming platform announced the project, which is currently unnamed, Thursday, saying it will follow the singer, 27, as she shows fans her personal and musical journey over the past three years.

Impactful moments from the last three years include Lovato's relapse that led to a 2018 overdose and subsequent hospitalization, as well as her recent musical comeback.

This isn't the first project Lovato has done with YouTube. The new series will act as a follow up to the 2017 YouTube documentary “Simply Complicated" about the singer.

"Simply Complicated" takes a serious look at Lovato's rise to fame and the complications that almost ended it all.

The film explores some of the singer's darkest times, including her drug addiction (which ranged from pills to cocaine), eating disorder and heartbreak.

The new project is directed by Michael D. Ratner and produced by OBB Pictures. At this time, it is unclear when the docuseries will be released.

During an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in March 2020, Lovato recounted the night she decided to drink again, noting her struggles with an eating disorder played a major role. 

"I realized that over time as the things with the eating disorder were getting bad, over the years it progressively got worse… It led me to being really, really unhappy. My bulimia got really bad," she explained. "I asked for help and I didn't receive the help that I needed. So here I am, sober, and I'm thinking to myself, 'I'm six years sober but I'm miserable. I'm even more miserable than when I was drinking, why am I sober?' "

Lovato has also had some inspiring moments in the past couple of years, including her musical comeback, which was marked by an impressive Grammys performance.

She took to the award show stage in January to perform her then-new song "Anyone," marking her first live performance since she was hospitalized.
