Biden campaign claims Mike Pence is coming to Wisconsin to 'clean up' Donald Trump's 'mess'

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden's campaign said Vice President Mike Pence is coming to Wisconsin Tuesday to "clean up" President Donald Trump's "mess." 

Pence is due to make two stops in Waukesha, while the president is headed to Wisconsin Thursday.

The high-profile appearances in Wisconsin come just days after Trump held a rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

During the rally, Trump said the United States has tested 25 million people for the novel coronavirus.

"When you do testing to that extent, you’re going to find more people, you’re going to find more cases,” Trump said. “So I said to my people, ‘Slow the testing down, please!’ ”

White House officials have said Trump was joking.

But Biden's campaign and the Democrats have seized on the comments.

"Donald Trump has gambled with the health of Wisconsin families to benefit his own political fortune at every turn," Biden Deputy Campaign Manager Kate Bedingfield said.

"And once again — just days after Trump admitted he ordered COVID-19 testing to be slowed down during the middle of a global pandemic — Mike Pence is back in Wisconsin to clean up Trump’s mess. While Trump’s admission was stunning and outrageous, there are few actions that have done more damage to public health than Trump’s reckless order to slow down testing."

Bedingfield also criticized Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, who will accompany the vice president on a visit to the Waukesha STEM Academy for a discussion on school vouchers.

Bedingfield accused DeVos of pursuing "a radical, destructive agenda to reduce funding for our public K-12 schools and universities." She said Biden will nominate a secretary of education "with experience in a public school classroom," will "pay teachers what they deserve" and will "triple funding for schools that serve low-income students.”
