The Antietam Humane Society at 8513 Lyons Road in Waynesboro is looking for people to foster animals as well as sponsors to help with shelter funding.

“We would send them a photo and bio of the animal they sponsor through the mail,” Antietam Humane Society Director Kacie Morrell said. “Since kitten season is rolling around, we could have some folks who can’t foster kittens but want to help could sponsor the litters of kittens being fostered, supplying the foster with all the food, cat litter and toys they need.

"They can also sponsor some of our long-time residents that have been with us for quite a while; there are a lot of people who want to help but can’t foster.”

Franklin County Jeeps Club donated pet food and other items to local animal shelters, including Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter Antietam Humane Society and Humane Society of Washington County.

According to Morrell, Antietam Humane Society is currently in need of monetary donations, adult dog and cat food as well as litter and cleaning supplies.

“Those are staple needs that we are also accepting at the shelter,” she said. “We have more adult animals right now than usual.

"We have close to 45 dogs in the shelter and close to 100 cats.”

By comparison, at this time last year there were 170 cats in the shelter and the number of dogs is on par.

“Currently, we have 11 kittens out in foster," Morrell said. "During the shutdown people were keeping the kittens at their homes if they found them, but since people are going back to work and not staying home I’m thinking we will get our normal influx of kittens.”

The cost to sponsor an animal is $25. Checks can be mailed to Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268.

“Adopting and fostering is so important,” Morrell said. “All of the animals that come in deserve a second chance and taking them in gives them a second chance at a forever home and be nurtured and cared for.”
