It’s good to have the sales reports back to in a timely manor Now if they could work on the sold out in the same manor? May they could check on the UA’s more often? Well Good Luck All “><"?

-6678 Silver Proof Set – is that an inventory error adjustment or was someone really allowed to return thousands of sets when they discovered they couldn’t flip for profit?
If the latter, the return “reform” policies to avoid abuses was yet another mint flop.
Then again, if there was that much defective product, there are real problems. I highly doubt that is the case, though.
I suspect the flip thesis, but if I believe they’ve got some splanin to do!
This is not a unique happening – clarifications would be a nice touch.

2020-S Basketball Hall of Fame Enhanced Uncirculated Clad 50c Kids Set (20CH) with 20,280 sold. At $45 each, that is about $900,000. If the mint had decided not to be greedy, and sold them at $25.00, it most likely would have been a first day sell out, and the mint would have taken in $1,875,000.
Hard to say which way would net the mint the most profit without knowing the mints cost to produce these, but I bet it would be more profit on a sellout at $25.00. I would have bought one at that price, and I bet many others on this blog would have too. What’s that old saying, bears make money, bulls make money, but pigs get slaughtered?
$25.00 just feels reasonable. Still high for clad junk, but reasonable.
Of course the mint will probably sell a few more of these, but we all know that the first weeks sales on these type of coins is pretty much it.
Compare this to last years 2019 50th Anniversary Apollo 11 Half Dollar set which DID sell out. For $53.95 you received the Apollo 11 Proof Half plus an Enhanced Unc Kennedy. That Kennedy had a mintage of 100k. A Kennedy half with a 100K mintage will be WAY more in demand than any 75K mintage commemorative. Each coin in that set would half cost you $27.00. High, but reasonable, plus much much better on the secondary market.

Disagree 100%
The Mint CUT prices by 10% in 2014 on Several Mint products.
Results were sales went up Slightly on the several products affected and the Mint Lost MILLIONS in Profit in the process.
The experiment was such a Disaster that the Mint didn’t even keep the 10% reduction for the entire year of 2014…
Larry says
@ cagcrisp. well this way isn’t exactly working out for them. Especially if they had made all 75K of the coins. I guess we agree to disagree.
Last years Apollo 11 aniversary unc clad half and was $30.95. Even that would have been better.
Then, how can the mint explain why last years Native American C&C set with an enhanced unc dollar is a whopping $15.95????
Maybe somebody can make sense of it. Not me.

The 2020 Basketball Hall of Fame Launch Week Revenue and Profit have Exceeded the ENTIRE YEAR Revenue and Profit for:
2016 National Park Service Commemorative Program
2017 Boys Town Commemorative Program
2018 Centennial Commemorative Program
2019 American Legion Coin Commemorative Program
*2018 Breast Cancer Awareness Silver and Clad Commemorative Program (Hasn’t yet surpassed the Gimmick Pink Gold)
…SO…The 2020 Basketball Hall of Fame Commemorative coins in ONE Week have Exceeded Revenue and Profit for the ENTIRE YEAR for at least One Commemorative Coin Program since 2015.
IF it wasn’t for Covid 19 the 2020 Basketball Hall of Fame coins would have Exceeded Revenue and Profit for the 2019 Apollo 11 coins.
The Final Four and the NBA were where the Mint was going to get the sales for these coins. It was Never well received by the regular coin community…

The price for the 2020 Native American $1 Coin & Currency Set is listed at $34.50.
That’s Up 116.3%…

How did the mega bullion dealers get wind of the “emergency” ASE’S? Did the Mint reach out to some of them offering to sell to them? Then just about all 240,000 coins find their way to ,NGC? PCGS has done some. too…Seems like a cushy arrangement for both sides…Not sure I buy a quarter million as a rarity, and although I have bid on a few, I won’t be disappointed if I don’t get one…

This pushing of NCLT Bullion as the new Collectible can’t end up well. And the trend toward “rare” bullion ? Almost sounds good but if you think about it , the citizen who looks at any form of “money” as anything beyond a means to acquire a Whimpy Burger TODAY , is rarer than a W Mint Quarter.

I plan on buying 5 of every item that is listed to be coming out over the next few months. Oh wait, there aren’t any! What’s with that? The Mint will not make its fiscal year sales if it doesn’t do something soon.

Is there any remote possibility the US Gubmint will soon exit the mass ripping of the little guys with the “Collecting Hobbyists” Scam. Here on one hand the US Government is creating Trillions to hand out indirectly to the Big Boys but ripping off the geezerhood of Coin Nerds with unimaginative Coin Chaff at inflated prices. Seems like once again we’re back at the Washinton/Carver , Booker T Washinton dead end of the hobby.
Many in this neighborhood have a good clue that the US Mint has created a monster money pit . Throw in $100 and with luck you might recover a fraction down the line. Try to recover your “investment” quickly and MAYBE you can get $120 back but you need a lot of skill and luck to do that.
Has anyone considered a Petition to get the Mint out of this Scam ? At this point in time it seems like giving out Money is the proper function of Government. Selling it at a premium is so yesterday .

With the price increases this year, the Mint has pretty much lost this long-time customer. I’m now sown to a couple of proof sets, silver proof sets, and uncirculated sets, all of which are also too high in price. But I am totally not interested in the commem coins, medals, coin and currency sets and RP innovation dollars. Buying them is like throwing away money. Same for the numismatic PMs – they will only be worth bullion in the future. And there will be a lot fewer collectors in the future. I don’t see any younger people even slightly interested in the hobby, a lot different than when i was younger, which is too many years ago now.

Coinasaurus – glad you mentioned the BTW and Washington-Carver coins from the late 1940s and early6 1950s. Those two horribly designed coins (the Washington-Carver coin has to be the worst design ever in US coin history) was the final straw for the Treasury and no more commemorative coins were struck for 28 years. That’s a shame because some anniversaries worth commemorating (like the Civil War and the gold centennial (1948) and silver centennial (1959) and maybe a couple of world fairs were never struck. And the Golden Gate 50th anniversary in 1987 deserved having had a commemorative coin, IMO. And Alexander Hamilton should have had his birth bicentennial honored in 1957. For some strange reason, Alexander Hamilton has never been placed on any coin from the U.S. Mint. Doesn’t make any sense when the guy who founded the Lions Club, whom nobody knows, gets his portrait on a coin, to say nothing of P.T. Barnum showing up on a 1936 coin, a year of totally unnecessary commemorative coins, which basically resulted in the curtailing of commemorative coins except for those two disasters called the BTW and Washington-Carver coins..
