COVID-19 cases increase by 90, recoveries increase by 94 in South Dakota

South Dakota reported 90 more cases of the coronavirus on Saturday but no new deaths.

Active COVID-19 cases in South Dakota decreased by four on Saturday as an additional 94 recoveries were reported by the state department of health, but the number of hospitalized patients increased by 10 to 93.

No additional deaths were reported.

The total number of positive cases in the state inched up to 5,367, an increase of 90. Of those, 1,029 are active. There have been 474 total hospitalizations, 93 of which are current. There have been 65 deaths and 4,273 recoveries.

Of the total confirmed cases, 3,397 are in Minnehaha County, an increase of 10 from Friday. Beadle, Pennington, Brown and Lincoln Counties are the next highest for infection with between 250 and 361, respectively.

Beadle County reported 18 new cases, Pennington 13, Clay 8 and Lincoln and Lyman counties 6.

While the majority of the confirmed cases have been in people aged 30-39, 20-29 and 40-49, patients aged 60-69 and 50-59 have required the most hospitalizations. Thirty-one of the 65 coronavirus deaths in the state have been of people 80 and older, and 57 of the 65 have been in people 50 and over. There have been 61 recoveries in patients aged 80 and above.
