LANSING – Strong thunderstorms are possible Friday afternoon and evening in south-central and southwest Michigan, including the Lansing area.

Strong storms are possible Friday in the Lansing area.

The storms could generate winds of around 40 mph, small hail and locally heavy downpours, the National Weather Service said in a special weather statement.

The threat of strong storms should gradually decline through 6 p.m., forecasters said.

The forecast calls for nice weather on Saturday and Sunday, with sunny skies and highs in the mid- to high 70s.

Next week will start off hot, with highs in the mid-80s on Monday and the low 90s on Tuesday, the weather service said.

After Friday, the next chance for storms should be Wednesday, the agency said.
