Iowa Beef Industry Council launches local beef directory

The Iowa Beef Industry Council (IBIC) is launching a local beef directory to connect beef producers with local buyers.

IBIC director of industry relations Casey Allison says the coronavirus pandemic has brought increased interest from consumers in purchasing beef directly from farmers.

“It has ushered in a renewed interest in food security and ignited an increased interest from consumers to purchase beef directly from farmers,” Allison says. “And we’ve also seen an uptick in the number of inquiries from producers seeking resources regarding what they need to do to start selling beef direct.”

IBIC chairman Janine Moore says with supermarkets and grocery stores experiencing intermittent disruptions in availability of beef, the council felt it had to do something to address the marketplace needs.

“We understand this isn’t a solution that addresses all the challenges we face today but it’s a positive step forward in building a connection with beef farmers and shoppers,” Moore says.

More information can be found on the IBIC website under the Raising Beef tab.
