The Ventura County Fire Department will have a controlled burn for firefighter training in Fillmore on Thursday afternoon.

The controlled burn will go from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. near the Water Recycling Plant, 1580 River St. The Ventura County Air Pollution Control District approved the 2.8 acre site pending favorable weather conditions.

Training burns allow firefighters the opportunity to practice wildfire suppression techniques in a controlled setting. The fire department will maintain control lines to ensure the containment of the burn to the area.

Fillmore residents are warned they may notice smoke and helicopter traffic in the area as a result of the burn.
