Carlsbad man arrested for shooting from a moving vehicle

A Carlsbad man allegedly admitted to police he fired shots from a moving vehicle in the 2200 block of West Church on May 26, Carlsbad police said.

Randy Rollins, 26, was served a warrant Friday morning around 11:55 a.m. at the Eddy County Detention Center for shooting at or from a vehicle and criminal damage to property, said Lt. Jaime Balencia, Carlsbad police spokesperson.

Jail and court records indicated Rollins was booked into the Eddy County Detention Center May 27 at 3:36 p.m. for a 2019 warrant for failing to comply with conditions of probation.

Balencia said witnesses described Rollins as allegedly shooting from a motor vehicle around 4 p.m. on May 26.

 A couple of rounds struck a vehicle parked in a nearby parking lot. No one was injured in the incident, Balencia said.

On May 27, officers allegedly located a vehicle matching the description of the Dodge Charger which was driven by the suspected shoooter, read a Carlsbad Police Department news release.

 A firearm and casings that matched those at the scene were allegedly located in the vehicle, according to the news release.

No court date has been set for Rollins on the May 26 charges, online court records read.

Rollins was arraigned on Friday by Carlsbad Magistrate Judge Kelly Calicoat on the 2019 charges, court records indicated.

He remains in jail on no bail and no bond, per the jail’s website.

Balencia said detectives are still seeking more information on the alleged shooting.
