Man killed in Racine County hit-and-run was removing turtle from I-94

The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash Friday involving a commercial vehicle that fled the scene near Interstate 94 and Seven Mile Road in Racine County. 

The 9:20 a.m. crash closed the two right northbound lanes on I-94 near Seven Mile Road until about noon.  

The victim had stopped with his lights on along the shoulder to remove a turtle from road, State Patrol Sgt. Kyle Amlong said.

A State Patrol press release reported that the victim was a Freeway Service Truck driver who had been traveling northbound.The vehicle that struck the driver was a semi-tractor and trailer unit, which was later found in Ripon.

The family of the victim has been notified.
